2017 Rosehill Guineas Field and Barrier Draw

March 15th, 2017

Twelve of the country’s best three-year-olds have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s 2017 Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) in Sydney, highlighted by the inclusion of several previous winners at the highest level.

Prized Icon has returned to racing in excellent form this time and has drawn into the 2017 Rosehill Guineas field in barrier 8, with Glyn Schofield in the saddle.

Prized Icon was a standout performer through last year’s Autumn Carnival and capped his preparation with a maiden win at the highest level in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m).

Steadily building to the task in spring, the More Than Ready colt ran third in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) at his fourth campaign start, and while failing to match the late pace when fifth in the Group 2 Moonee Valley Vase (2040m), responded with a dominant win in the Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m).

Resuming for sixth in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m), Prized Icon savaged the line for second in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) a fortnight ago and will relish a step up to 2000m on Saturday.

Inference posted his first Group 1 win in the Randwick Guineas (1600m) two weeks ago and is another horse that will enjoy a step up to 2000m on Saturday.

Inference stamped himself as a colt to follow during the recent Spring Carnival; running third in both the Group 3 Ladbrokes Classic (2000m) and the Victoria Derby most notably.

Having resumed this time for fifth in the Hobartville Stakes, in what was his only other start prior to the Randwick Guineas, Inference has drawn ideally into the Rosehill Guineas field in barrier 3 and will be partnered by Tommy Berry.

Gingernuts was last seen storming home to win the Group 1 New Zealand Derby (2400m) and is offered a good opportunity to win his Australian debut, after drawing into the Rosehill Guineas field in barrier 4.

Gingernuts has undoubtedly been New Zealand’s standout three-year-old this time and the horse will be seeking a fourth-consecutive win when he takes his position in the Rosehill Guineas field.

Leading kiwi hoop Opie Bosson will take the ride on Gingernuts, who will have to overcome a drop back in distance for the first time in his racing career.

Bred in New Zealand, Anaheim has contested each of his eight career starts in Australia and should find himself right in the finish of the Rosehill Guineas.

Returning to the paddock after posting a maiden black type win in the Listed TV Stakes (1800m), the Savabeel gelding resumed this time for third in a Sandown minor over 1400m on February 15th, before savaging the line for fifth in the Australian Guineas last time out.
