Fourteen three-year-olds have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s 2016 Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m); highlighted by the inclusion of several previous winners at the highest level of Australian racing.
Tarzino savaged the line for second in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) a fortnight ago and will relish a step up to 2000m for the 2016 Rosehill Guineas.
Posting three wins and as many minors through eight career starts so far, Tazino made a credible transition to black type racing when seventh in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on October 10th; savaging the line for third in the Group 2 Moonee Valley Vase (2040m) before taking out the Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m) only one week later.
Resuming this time for fourth in the Group 2 Autumn Stakes (1400m), the Tavistock colt will leave from the ideal barrier 2 in the Rosehill Guineas with regular hoop Craig Newitt aboard and will be very hard to beat in the conditions.
Le Romain broke through for a maiden win at the highest level in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) last start and will contest his first race over 2000m in the 2016 Rosehill Guineas.
Yet to finish outside the first three through seven career starts, Le Romain returned this time for success in the Schweppes Quality (1000m) on January 23rd before running second to Spill The Beans in the Group 3 Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) a fortnight.
Placing second to Press Statement in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) on February 20th, Le Romain was sent off a $21 chance in the Randwick Guineas but was given a gem of a ride from jockey Christian Reith and maintained to the line to post a huge upset win.
Drawn well in barrier 7, Reith will retain the ride on the Kris Lees-trained gelding in the Rosehill Guineas on Saturday.
Jameka has been confirmed as the sole filly in the 2016 Rosehill Guineas field and has been charged with carrying only 54.5kgs as a result.
Running third in the Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes (1200m) in early spring, Jameka progressed to second in each of the Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) and Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) before taking out the Moonee Valley Vase.
Producing a particularly impressive effort to end her campaign with success in the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m), Jameka resumed this time for fourth in the Group 3 The Vanity (1400m) before placing fifth in the Australian Guineas a fortnight ago.
Montaigne could very well receive the run of the race from barrier 3 in the Rosehill Guineas and appears as though he is searching to the 2000m of the feature race.
Winning a pair of Randwick minors over 1400m and a mile through January and early February, the Road To Rock gelding placed third in the Hobartville Stakes before running fifth in the Randwick Guineas last time; making ground late.
