A final field of just 11 three-year-olds will take to the track at Rosehill on Saturday hoping to secure a coveted Group 1 win in the $500, 000 Darley Rosehill Guineas (2000m).
Only one horse is missing following the nominations, the John Thompson-trained Count Encosta.
Thompson will still be represented in the race on Saturday by Gathering and Run For Naara, both drawn ideally in barriers two and four respectively, and Saint Encosta drawn out wider in six. The Warwick Farm-based trainer is aiming for the second Group 1 win of his career following his success in the Australasian Oaks last weekend with Small Minds.
Sure to start as one of the favourites in the 2010 Rosehill Guineas is the John Wallace-trained Shoot Out, despite drawing awkwardly mid-field with barrier seven.
Winner of the Randwick Guineas last start, the classy Gold Coast based High Chaparral gelding is now looking to secure the Randwick Guineas – Rosehill Guineas double before heading on to the AJC Derby.
Legendary trainer Bart Cummings will present the biggest threat to Shoot Out on Saturday with his talented Australian Guineas winner Rock Classic, drawn in barrier five.
The son of Fastnet Rock is looking to also looking to secure back-to-back Group 1 wins after he became a Group 1 winner in just his fifth career start. Shoot Out will be ridden by in-form hoop Michael Rodd in the Rosehill Guineas.
Other top contenders in the 2010 Rosehill Guineas include the up and coming Zabeel gelding Zabrasive who has secured the prized inside barrier, the David Hayes-trained Extra Zero drawn out wide in barrier 10 and Peter Moody’s Hanks well positioned in gate three.
The 2010 Darley Rosehill Guineas will jump at 4:10pm as race seven at the meeting’s bumper nine-event programme. Other highlights on the day will include the $150, 000 Group 2 Pago Pago Stakes (Race 4 – 2:10pm), $150, 000 Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (Race 5 – 2:50pm) and the $150, 000 Group 2 Ajax Stakes (Race 6 – 3:30pm).
