The 2011 Rosehill Guineas is scheduled to take place on Saturday 26th March.

The Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival, which runs from February until the end of April each year, is host to New South Wale’s largest array of group races and is always an exciting and entertaining time for the millions of spectators and punters who get involved.

A plethora of other excellent group races are also held on Rosehill Guineas Day, including the Group 2 Ajax Stakes and Magic Night Stakes, making it a fantastic day for the racing public and punters!

Run over a distance of 2000m, the Rosehill Guineas is the first chance for the runners to compete in a race of this length and class.

Testing the staying abilities of the contenders at Group 1 level, the Rosehill Guineas often determines the dominant horses of the season. The race is also the most significant lead-up race to the premier three-year-old event of the Autumn Carnival, the Group 1 AJC Australian Derby (2400m) held two weeks later.

This Rosehill Guineas – AJC Australian Derby duo is also one of the great betting doubles available for punters during the carnival, and the last horse to succeed in both races was Eremein in 2005.

Rosehill Guineas History:

The Rosehill Guineas was first run in 1910, won by Electric Wire, and was originally classed as a Principal race.

It was elevated to Group 1 status in 1980 when the famous Kingston Town, who had over 20 Group 1 wins throughout his racing career including two Melbourne Cup victories in 1981 and 1982, triumphed.

Some of Australian racing’s finest three-year-olds have claimed victory at the Rosehill Guineas including Diatribe (2000), Sky Heights (1999), Octagonal (1996) and Naturalism (1992).

Back in 1929 Australia’s most celebrated race horse, Phar Lap, launched his spectacular career with a win in the Rosehill Guineas.

Rosehill Guineas Betting:

There is a huge variety of betting odds and options open on the Sydney Autumn Carnival and its plethora of high status races, and one of the most popular wagers is on the three-year-olds Triple Crown.

The prestigious Triple Crown includes three races, the Randwick Guineas, Rosehill Guineas and the AJC Derby.

If you are looking for an enticing and well paying wager than the Triple Crown is for you as the dividends paid if your selected horse successfully wins all three races are enormous! So when betting on the Rosehill Guineas, keep an eye out for winners of the Group 1 Randwick Guineas held earlier on in the carnival for the Triple Crown, and also as an indication for who will perform well at Rosehill.
